Anyone passing smog checks?

With an Upsolute Chip and .205 injectors...is anybody passing smog tests???

or do they usually *look away* from the huge clouds of black soot erupting from the tailpipe?

What "huge clouds of black soot erupting from the tailpipe" of Upsoluted TDI's with the 205 Injectors?

Johnny Cetane, your address says California, strange as is sounds, California
has no smog checks for our TDIs. That's right, none. I was shocked when I registered my first TDI here and saw the 2 most beautiful words in our state, "smog exempt."
I've read of a few other states having some modified tests, but not here.
BTW, neither of my Upsolute TDIs show smoke under normal driving. Rarely, with extreme acceleration, I might see a puff of smoke, but that is rare.

Check injection timing, check that the EGR is not doing more than it should, check for anything that might be restricting the air intake. (Filter, snow screen, intake manifold, etc.) Also use VAG-COM to see whether your pump is too "rich": it should report injection quantity at idle of not less than 2.2 mg/stroke with the engine fully warmed up and air conditioning off.
