What's the deal in the huge jump in value from the 2010 Sportwagen TDI to the 2011 model year? The values between each year affected by the buyout seem to follow the same incremental curve except between the 2010 and 2011 model years, where the increase is more than double. What's up with that? The cars are virtually identical in those two model years. Something seems wrong.

2009 Sportwagen TDI: $13,817
2010 Sportwagen TDI: $15,347
2011 Sportwagen TDI: $19,067
2012 Sportwagen TDI: $20,747

(Of course I'm the unlucky sap with the 2010 model.)

I have a huge issue here too. Needless to say, I have a 2010 too.

Emissions rules for diesels changed in 2010 to 2011 timeframe.....they were SIGNIFICANTLY TOGHTENED...and this is when most HD trucks has to switch to DEF based SCR systems to meet rules...
So the 2010+ cars in in WORSE NONCOMPLIANCE....SO they are willing to spend more $$ to get them off the road....and those same cars will be harder to make compliant....that's my guess.
Think of it as the older ones are allowed to be a bit more dirty overall....making the repairs simpler, and the credits less costly.
