Oil Pressure gauge, \'98 TDI

I am ready to order an oil pressure gauge and sender.

My question is: What pressure range should I get? 80 psi or 100 psi?

I am looking at getting the VDO Vision Series gauge and a VDO A-pillar single gauge mount. I will probably buy from http://www.egauges.com Is there a better source?

Thanks.

I say 80 psi. I think the max we see is 72.5 because of the relief valve. I have no probs with my 80 psi gauge. Don is very helpful. That is definately worth something.

footnote: You should get somebody with a bentley for that year car to tell you when the relief valve opens on it. You have a different engine than I do.

As I recall from my school days,
a Bowden Tube gauge is most
accurate in its middle range.

I remember this topic coming up before. I confidently advised the lower range would be fine for the reasons Karl suggests. But sombody insisted that he regularly saw readings above 80 psi. It still sounds too high to me.

I think it depends on the engine you have-my alh is 72.5 psi. For me, going down the road at 65 mph or so with the engine warmed up, pressure is in the 40 psi range. When first started it's right up there, however. VDO told me that there could be damage to the gauge if it was pegged a lot, which led me to buy a 150 psi gauge (I didn't have the choice of 100 psi I think). It was next-to-useless because of the small sweep on the gauge. Plus then I figured out the relief valve thing. A real expensive electric gauge or a cheap mechanical gauge would have much more of a sweep.
