We went on a little day trip yesterday to Carlsbad Caverns. Drove through Guadalupe Mountains National park and passed by this strange building. I've seen them before but have no idea what it is. Anyone know?
I averaged 45mpg going 75-80mph as well.

That is a VOR / DME station. Think of those as electronic waypoints that aircraft use to navigate from place to place. I think it is "Pinon" and used primarily by low altitude aircraft.

Thanks for the replies. There are three of these VORTAC sites, all around 100 miles from EP.

I love driving in W-TX. Nice open roads with no traffic, and beautiful scenery (if you like desert landscapes. haha)
Here are a few pics from the cave for those of you who haven't been. The main cave is amazing! It's hard to describe how enormous the rooms are. I think the "Great Room" is something like 300 yards long with ceilings approaching 100 feet.
