Hello friends!
In this topic I want to tell you about my history of building a charged car with the right brakes and the right turbocharger.
Take the SEAT LEON 2.0 TDI with a BKD engine 140 hp
It is bought in 2007, new, in a motor show. I am the only owner and this story is more than 10 years long.
That's how the car looked at the time of purchase. Is it really a bit dull? :)

A continuation

While the car was under warranty, I did not do anything. Just replaced the bumper on LeoN FR
Already better :) Soon we will come to the essence of the project :)

After the end of the warranty, I untied my hands :)
The body kit was installed (Je-design). Rather, the body kit was made from a photo, and adapted to the roads of Ukraine.
Original covers were made on the headlights that radically change the look of Leon.
Stoke wheels were swapped for wheels Kosei Magnum R17.
When the error of two airbags in the seats lit up, I decided to change the seats to the leather interior of the Audi C5. Everything came up with minimal rework.
Auto acquired the kind that deserves. There is only one task left, to make the car go as much as it looks!
Soon we will come to more serious tuning.

A continuation (turbo from VW TDI 170 hp)

Everyone knows that the BKD turbine is rotten, weak and has the ugly habit of breaking.
I changed two stock turbines. The second stock-turbine tore the cold part (photo 1). And I realized that I need to change this thoroughly.
My third replacement experience was not very successful. At that time I didn’t know about custom turbines and decided to install a turbine from TDI 170 hp (photo 2).
Yes, I raised the power to 170 hp and 450H.
Yes, the turbine served for a long time and did not cause problems, but the car did not go as it looked. After 3700 rpm drive was not.

What do I understand except that I want more drive? 170 hp led me to the idea that proper tuning starts with good brakes. The next post is about this.

A continuation (brakes)

Even at 170 hp the car braked worse than accelerated. Stock brakes required changes. And I found excellent Porsche brakes with six pistons and 340 mm discs. This is the front.
Rear brakes 282 mm were installed from a Seat Altea. Perforation performed independently.
Calipers were painted in black lacquer.
I recommend everyone to think about brakes if your intention is more than 200 hp. Issue price of $ 1000 and a week of painful fantasies on the topic of inscriptions on calipers:)

True, the installation of such brakes required the purchase of wheels R18. I really liked my Magnums - lightweight and durable. Therefore, I found the same Magnums but 18 size and I managed to change them.
The departure of the new wheels should have been at least ЕТ 35, therefore the wheel track has expanded. This led to the fact that it was necessary to change the shock absorbers to tougher BILSTEIN B6. Otherwise the car was shaky. With the BILSTEIN B6 and with wheels ET 35 car rides gently, but tenaciously and exactly.

A continuation (turbo 300 hp)

Install the turbo.
Tuning sucks head. 170 hp it is not much, but 450 N is enough that the rest would consider and smell your exhaust. Then one day we caught up with Audi Q8. This is a big barn on wheels. I thought it would be easy to tear off. But he just left me.
My patience came to an end and I threw out a turbo VW TDI 170 hp
In Ukraine, the custom turbo service is not developed. I had to search the internet. I have studied this forum and the proposals of various companies, ranging from England to neighboring Poland.

I wanted a 3.4 bar turbo. It should have been a big turbocharger. But a big turbine is a big lag. There are few specialists in Ukraine who dealt with this. They told me that the car could not be used as a city car, that the lag would be too big, that the fuel consumption would be 10 liters in the city.
After studying the Internet, I took a chance and chose the GTB2260VK. And not just the GTB2260VK, but the GTB2260VKLR Ball Bearing Hybrid Turbo. This is a product of the guys from www.gottuned.com.
The blades of this turbo unwind faster than other turbines and according to the seller’s assurances the car will go from 2000 revolutions. It is incredible and looks like a fairy tale. And I weakly believed and worried. And here on the forum I didn’t find many similar topics, and yet I took a chance and bought it.
Who cares here is the link

The guys from gottuned.com offered the kit and the injectors + highly recommended immediately changing the clutch to 700N.
The installation of this kit required the replacement of the air sensor by 4 bars. In addition, I put the Audi Rc intercooler and straight-through exhaust with one stronger

The turbo has the flow and return oil, we put it in a heat shield. Probably this could not be done, since this turbo has water cooling. The intake air temperature does not exceed 65 degrees Celsius. What will happen with the summer heat, I will see and report.
And in the end a few photos of the exhaust. I did not invent it from a stainless steel. Plain steel.Only stronger and all :)

Movement on 1-2 gears 2.0 TDI BKD with GTB2060VKLR by www.GotTuned.com

When I chose a big turbo, I was looking for such videos, where I will see movement in the city for 1-2 gears and 2-3 gears. Where will be visible instant fuel consumption. But the Internet is full of videos where cars accelerate like crazy from 0 to 100, from 0 to 150, from 100 to 200.
People! Wake up!
It is clear that if you install a large turbo then your car will go! :D:D:D
But at least someone posted a video of how the car goes as a city car? After all, most of the time you do not fly by car, but crawl in the city traffic, and sooner or later, even a small lag gets tired and you begin to regret installing a large turbo
Movement on 1-2 gears 2.0 TDI BKD with GTB2060VKLR by www.GotTuned.com. The car is cold, the temperature outside is minus 5 degrees. The movement is smooth, there is no lag. Fuel consumption is the same as the stock turbo. Average consumption of 7-7.5 liters

I have a much bigger turbo and its great in town. No lag, moves decently.
Combined with dsg gearbox its awesome.

PS. Are you trying to make some publicity for got tuned? It seems like it.

Why do not you make a video movement on 2 and 3 gears in the city? At 10-20% power. I looked at the forum and your car, too, and I am very interested in how it goes in the city traffic?!
On account of the availability of advertising, it seemed to you :) I have no commercial interest. There is a desire to share good experiences and high-quality contacts. If I will be in Poland I will definitely come to these guys with beer from Lviv and get to know them better!

I drive my car everyday in the city and its perfect. i have more torque than the standard car so i dont see the problem...i have dsg and the gears are very short also.

I have a mechanic. For me, this question is very relevant. If you have an dsg, then of course it is easier for you. But even with a dsg, fuel consumption can be increased when driving 20-40 km/h. My past turbo did not want to turn on before 2200 rpm and it was very annoying. +1.5 liters of consumption and a constant delay with the accelerometer. I suffered this 1 year and threw it away.

Could you make a video, a quiet ride of 20-40 km per hour, with instant fuel consumption. This will be very useful for those who are thinking.
Video from 0 to 100 is more than enough

I know you make power, but please show us EGT log.
I think the sensor can not read the egt produced in such a setup.

I took the time to measure the engine power. I have not been able to find the time for a long time, six months have passed since I completed the tuning of the modifications of the GotTuned.
Measurement was taken at an air temperature of +21C. The turbine with ceramic bearings made boost pressure 36 psi, intake air temperature 39C.
Power amounted to 313 Hp and 607 Nm
The second measurement was at an inlet air temperature of 30C and the power was 324 Hp
I am pleased as a good elephant :)

That's a nice looking dyno plot. I'm sure the power seems like it goes on forever. Any other plans for it in the future? or is it pretty much where you want it to be?
