Blue DEF

My 15 Passat took 2.5 gallons after its first 10K miles.
Now it has 16K I will be probably topping it off in few months.

Not sure how big the tank is, but the DEF consumption on my 2015 Passat is about 10-11K miles for 2.5 GAL of DEF. Shortly after getting the 1500 mile warning, I add 2.5 GAL of DEF - the warning repeats about every 10-11 K miles.
I have no reason to top it off - don't want to spill any DEF fluid in the trunk, or keep any partially used open DEF containers in the garage, or have the DEF heater work extra hard to keep the full tank warm. 10K mile interval seems fine for me.

I think it is a little less than 3 gallons total.

DEF usage varies greatly, and with the new "less cheaty" software, it stands to reason DEF usage would be greater.

Most of the 2012-14 CKRA Passats could go the 10k interval before, but some just barely. No idea how they will do now, nor how much different the 2015 (different engine) would be.

And it can vary depending on ambient temps, too. So until you have some driving under your belt it will be tough to say for sure what your particular car under your particular driving will do. So until that time, it may be wise to at least keep a small unopened container of it at home inside (the DEF is supposed to be stored between 12 F and 86 F) o top up in case the warning comes on before the car is due for its normal service.

Coming up on 10K since buying a NOS '15, no warning for low DEF just yet. But we have entered colder weather, car is garaged over night.

BTW I thought the tank was 5 gallons on the NMS.

It may be. I am not sure, just that from the [few] that come in here even if the DEF warning is already on I can barely get 3 gal in before it starts to spill out. STUPID place for the DEF fill.

I would say if you make to 10K miles without warning light, fill it up at the time you do the oil change, if a little bit of DEF is left, dump it , it is so cheap not worth holding on to a bit of it anyway.

That is one difference I noticed in my New/old 2015 Beetle. The def fill is at the fuel fill. So no interior spills in it.

RIP 16 GSW... Just the LR diesel now
Manufacturers seem to have settled on a 10k Def range. Company Ram (ED and CTD) pick ups are both "there".

According to the Vw Fluid Capacity chart for the 15 Passat, the Adblue tank capacity is 18.5 liters or approximately 5 gallons.

Anyone know what happens if someone was to ignore the low warning light on this and the ECU doesn't let the engine start up? Is that something that can be corrected with VCDS?
