Have a 04 bew Jetta that we have been working on. We could not get it to start without priming fuel to the tandem pump. Replaced the lift pump as it had quit working. Now this car starts perfect cold, but won’t start hot hardly at all. It just cranks and cranks and cranks then it will eventually start. Normally with a blip of the throttle while cranking and it’ll start. Do we have a tandem pump failing? I’m gonna hook up vcds but last I looked there were no codes. This is the 2nd bew car I have had do this.

I’ll have to do that. It’s got me pulling my hair out haha. Supposedly it hadn’t ever had a starting issue when hot till we did the work. Came in for faulty slave cylinder which was repaired, then found the lift pump to not be working so we replaced it. All in all we did:
High mileage timing belt kit
Lift pump
Large cooling fan
New clutch
New slave cylinder
Malone stage 1.5 tune
I can’t imagine anything we did to cause a no start when hot.

Cam timing was at + 1* when it left here. They will retard a little over the life of the belt but I doubt it has moved any at all.
