Greetings,
2000 Jetta TDI 5-spd with 236,xxx miles
Last timing belt at 180,xxx miles
Last fuel filter changed at 219,xxx miles [last May]
The car will start quickly and run as long as you want it to, but if you shut it off and try to restart it within 5-8 minutes, it ain't gonna happen.
If you wait 10 minutes, it'll start right up.
The engine doesn't have to be warm, either. I can go out in the morning, start it, let it run of 20 seconds and shut it off. It won't re-start for another 10 minutes.
I checked the anti-shutter valve, and it seems okay.
I can see a tiny air bubble in the clear fuel hose when it's off. When cranking, the bubble disappears.
I even hooked-the battery to a charger... no change.
Normally, car is started, driven 40-45 miles to school, then shut down for at least a couple hours. Problem wasn't discovered until the car was driven to a quicky-mart a couple days ago.
The problem is quite repeatable.
Any ideas? Spring Break is almost over. I don't want my son stranded 40 miles away, near a bunch of college women, with nothing to do
