Someone told me everything from 2006 on is a DSG Automatic and the standard auto has been discontinued, is this correct?

Context to your question would be nice.

Because it depends on the model and engine.

These diesel engines/models that use the 02E DSG:

2004-2006 BEW in the New Beetle only.

2005.5-2006 BRM in the A5 Jetta.

2009-2014 CBEA/CJAA in the A5 Jetta sedan and wagon, A6 Golf and Audi A3.

2011-2014 CJAA in the NCS Jetta sedan.

2012-2014 CJAA Beetle

2012-2014 CKRA NMS Passat

2015 any FWD diesel CVCA NMS Passat and Beetle, CRUA Golf or Jetta/NCS Jetta, Golf Sportwagon, A7 Golf.

None of the V6 TDI models got a DSG, they either use an Aisin 6sp or 8sp transmission or a ZF 8sp transmission, which are conventional automatics.

There are DSGs in certain gasoline FWD/AWD VAG models. Starting with the GTI/GLI models back in the late 2000s, showing up later on in various other models, like the CC, the Tiguan, etc. There is also a different DSG (7sp dry disc) used in the Jetta Hybrid. There is also a longitudinal 7sp DSG in some Audi models like the later S4s, etc.

Many of the current VAG cars (which are sadly now all gasoline fueled) still use the 6sp 09G Aisin automatic in transverse applications. The longitudinal cars are essentially all ZF now.
