Hey guys...car has been parked and finally got around to fixing some things up, CA smog, etc. Car is ready to go. Driving it occasionally now to keep things fresh. Re-listing. Trying to gauge value, so feedback welcome. New price: $6900/obo.
I'm not totally sure what to ask for this car. However, this is not a 'feeler', since I'm definitely selling it. I am looking for some help with value / pricing. I'd like to sell it to a club member who wants to take this car over the proverbial finish line.
It's a 2003 Golf GLS TDI with 187k on the clock. The details:
The Good:
Keeping in mind that I’m very particular about my cars, here’s the not so good:
With twin 5 year olds and a full time+ job, I just don't have the time to finish the build and give the car the attention it needs. That being said, the following are the known issues that I am going to try and get hammered out before sale. If you'd like to take on these nagging issues, we'll adjust price accordingly.
Recent / Relevant Services Performed:
160k miles: When I purchased the car, I couldn't confirm that the previous TB job was done correctly...so...Full timing belt kit including water pump, tensioner, pulleys, bolts, idler pulley, etc. Cam pulled and inspected and 2 lifters replaced. New Serpentine tensioner shock.
162k: Coolant Temp Sensor
163k: new GTB2056vk turbo, oil lines, downpipe, full exhaust
186k miles: new alternator
187k miles: new e-brake cable; new thermostat housing
I have 2 key fob's and a valet key for it. it's currently set up to get smogged, but it has a CAT that is flanged in and easily R&R'd. I have a custom EGR hard pipe that I had made so it can pass CA smog. It has a current smog that is good for another 60 days.
I am the 3rd owner. Car was in Portland until I took ownership in July 2012. It was briefly in Vancouver, WA before that.
I can get some better pics up, if desired. These were taken at sunset and the car is deeper red in person than depicted in the photos.

It's a 2003 Golf GLS TDI with 187k on the clock. The details:
The Good:
- 5sp 02j with Peloquin & 3.14 R&P
- DC Stage IV Clutch
- Whitbread/RyanP GTB2056vk
- 2.5" Turboback
- Eurojet SMIC
- PD150 Intake & Tip
- AEG Crankcase Breather
- VR6 Airbox
- Bosch 764 injectors
- 11mm Injection Pump
- Eibach Pro System Suspension
- 20AE/Audi TT Brakes
- Tune by TD Tuning
- McNally Bost / EGT Gauge
- Nicktane 1 Micron Fuel Filter Kit
- GLI Front Seats; 27k on seats. The passenger one is like new. Stock seats were heated, so it is “conversion ready”
- 3-spoke Steering Wheel
- Evolution Skid Plate
- Team Dynamics 17x8 wheels with Conti DWS Extreme
- Black Forest Industries Dog Bone Mount
- Monster Mats
- Audi TT LCA Bushings
- B5 Oil Cooler
- Homelink driver visor w/ extender
Keeping in mind that I’m very particular about my cars, here’s the not so good:
- 2 dings in the hood (see pics) from a rock. I think they would respond to the small dent guys, but the rock chipped the paint. I touched it up with Dr. Color Chip and it looks OK, but still small dents
- 2 small almost indiscernible dings above the right rear wheel. I tried taking a picture, but you couldn't seem them in the photo
- 2 parallel scratches on the hatch. One is about 4" long and the other is about 5" long. Previous owner said her skis slipped and hit the car. The edges would likely buff out fine, but they would require touch up paint.
- some scratches in the lower door jamb, driver's side. Invisible when door is closed
- Miscellaneous chips from 187k worth of typical road rash.
- Previous owner had a roof rack that left some shadowing on the roof. I couldn't capture a photo of it - you just can't see it in a picture
- could use a new shift boot
- driver's door switch is flaky
- Small eraser-size hole in center of headliner. Rest is in excellent condition
- One of the LED sections is out in the McNally gauge. It has never bothered me.
- It looks like there may be some clear coat damage on the left front fender. I am 90% sure the detailer I used locally did it. That’s a story for another time (grrrrrrr…)

That being said, the following are the known issues that I am going to try and get hammered out before sale. If you'd like to take on these nagging issues, we'll adjust price accordingly.
- The rubber door trim (not the door seal) is separated in a few of the corners. It makes the cabin a bit noisy at highway speeds, but it's never bothered me. I was going to replace anyway.
- Front Tires are nearing the end of their life. Rears are good.
- Rear window washer doesn't always spray fluid
