I have one, it has only 12k mile on it. It is an VW OE. I paid good money for it (900$). If you are interest make me an offer. I would also recommend not using a rebuild TC they do not last unless the rebuild by SACH (the OE manufacturer). My transmission failed so i had a local guy rebuild it. He used a local rebuild TC it lasted about 10K it started slipping and threw PO741 codes. I purchased a new OE TC unfortunately after 12k miles my newly rebuild transmission failed. I installed a 5 speed manual transmission and hope i a good for a very long time.

I had mine rebuilt a couple of years ago, 40k km or so by Precision of New Hampshire. Still fine.

At some point yes. Have not heard of many local rebuilds lasting a significant amount of time. The originals usually are good for 150kto 200k

Does the trans "typically" fail after the TC has been replaced?
With a slipping TC, the trans overheats and it's not good for it. I think if the slipping TC is not replaced quickly enough, it can fail early. So if you catch it immediately, your chances for long life is very good.

I got a rebuilt from Florida Torque converter. May not be the exact name. Was on ebay. Sent converter, I sent core back. Still working good a year later and a very good price.
