I overtorqued the bolt of the injector holder and half of the bolt is in the engine now.
What can I do to take it out?
Also can I replace the bolt with another but not from VW?

Thanx for your help

Hey Superlite,

I just had this happen to me a couple of days ago.

Get a reverse (or left handed) drill bit. Do NOT get an Easy-Out because there's a greater change it'll break.

If that left handed drill bit doesn't work or something goes astray then have the car towed to a good welding shop and have a stud welding into the place of the thread where the bolt used to go OR have the tap another bolt hole for you.

Make sure the look at the depth of the other bolt holes because beneath the bolt hols for the injector holders sits coolant passages. Ask me how I know

Hope this helps

The bolt is out, I was lucky enough it still turned fairly easily. I slowly drilled a tiny hole and gently hammered a little flat screwdriver on top just to make it bite.
All I had to do was unscrew until it was completely out.
Serves me a lesson...

Gettin50MPGs, how's it going for you, any good news?

Seems like this is an all-too-common problem. I just had this happen to me at a GTG on the weekend. Man, is that a bad feeling when it happens. I was saved by another member here (Wingnut) and we were able to get the bolt out without an issue. Closest thing I could find is a M8X50. The original hardness of the bolt is an 8-8, but people were telling me to get a 10-8. I am yet to find this. I am going to be doing some work on my car, and while the bolts aren't even a week old, I am going to be replacing them when I take them out. (for the few dollars, I would rather do that then have one snap)

How _did_ Wingnut get that broken bolt out??

one of the reasons I (temporarily) stopped working on cars a couple of decades ago is that broken bolts happened with too much frequency... (these Quebec cars tend to get all the connectors frozen in place due to corrosion... a heavy duty torch seems almost mandatory...)

Got lucky to be honest. Tazzman had a cordless drill and the proper drill bits. Nigel had his easy outs or whatever they are called. You drill a hole in the bolt, tap the easy out into the hole, and use a socket and light pressure to turn the bolt out. Luckily the bolt wasn't in there too hard. Sounds like dirt buildup in the hole, and an old bolt. I got emergency ones, but am switching from the standard 8-8 grade bolt to 10-9.

Where can I get some of those 10-9 bolts?

Went to a VW stealership the other day and they acted like they didn't know what the hell the injector holder bolts were.

It seems like after 150k its a good idea to change those bolts.

TorVento: >>Got lucky<< - I've never been all that lucky with my broken bolts/stripped nuts...

Getting50: >>Went to a VW stealership the other day and they acted like they didn't know what the hell the injector holder bolts were<<

They probably didn't know... sigh... (where's the emoticon for that ???)

No surprise...I called some dealerships the other day inquiring about the hose between the injectors, back to the pump. One was totally dumfounded about what I was talking about.

Anyhow, about the 10-9...so far I have only found them in one place. Brafasco...it's a fastener specializing shop. Everywhere else that I have looked has had only 8-8.

John, go to a local shop that repairs lawnmowers. Get some of the yellow or green tubing that they use to replace the fuel line. It is Viton or Tigon, and works well for the interinjectors/fuel pump return hose. Fairly cheap, too.

Bruce, thanks for the info on the hoses. I actually had the kit from Greg (lubespecialist)...long story, but anyhow, I had a very slight leak at one of my new injectors, and thought I would try and see if the hose was the problem. Turns out the fuel line wasn't mating properly with one of the injectors, and when I did a switch around of the installed injectors, everything sealed up just fine.
