They will pay out more billions of euros before it's all said and done. The silver lining is that being brought to justice has set them on the path toward cleaner transportation solutions.

Well they may or they may not. Lets just see how it all works out. The Germans may not be as inclined to bankrupt their car company as the US was to make a huge example of them.

This is all stemming from the original dieselgate issue. Nothing new, just keep paying for their past arrogance...

the US was to make a huge example of them.
The U.S. also fined Hyundai, Kia, Honda, and Ford over the last decade. The US makes “an example” of ANY company that breaks the law. And yes VW’s fine was large but so was the crime committed (almost a decade of cheating on tests & putting excess pollution into the atmosphere)

No one was fined and punished as VW was. Their actual crime was a lie and comparatively speaking the emissions were minuscule in the grand scheme of things and would have made little if any difference in the world environment. The diesel "tuned" pickups out there I would imagine make way more of an issue than all 1/2 million VW diesels combined. My opinion and yours of course is different.
