to the BB specialist.

Had to put on sunglasses ?

Asked for tissue ?

Gave the car a parting hug ?

Kept a memento ?

Changed your mind @ last second and ran outta dealership (we have at least 1 confirmed of those !) ?

Scraped the TDI emblem off with my fathers Tiguan key and laughed all the way to the bank

I quit getting emotional about cars when there was no longer a "2" as the first digit of my age.

I did not get emotional myself, just a bit sad when I was taking off all the aftermarket parts off my car but my BB Rep told me that he have had some girls shedding tears at buy back time.

Not me!
But I did keep the engine cover to hang on the garage wall.

TDI & Tiguan, does not compute!

I dropped my Jetta off, my 78 year old father on my advise drives a 2015 Tiguan... He was my ride home from the dealership.

Wish the US had a Tiguan TDI

Whoops, I missed the 'with' part!

I read it as: I scraped the TDI emblem off my fathers Tiguan key and laughed all the way to the bank.

Yeah, Tiguan TDI would have been cool, and was supposed to be an option when they first announced the Tiguan, but never materialized.

I was relieved, especially when the EFT came in. I had already bought my replacement, using a credit card advance as a "bridge loan", and immediately paid it off.

Yes, driving my replacement BMW provides some consolation.

My son had one gold plated for me! Have to admit, I shed a tear when the EFTs all cleared...
That is awesome! I might consider stealing that idea. I just purchased a "new" 2015 Jetta TDI SE to replace my 2013. I am going to have a tough time giving it up.

Ooh, some good ideas here on keeping part of my car. I am scheduled in a few weeks and I am starting to have second thoughts. My 8 yr old daughters have cried because we're getting rid of "strawberry" (red Jetta) so that makes it hard for me too!

I parked by one door and left by another door so I wouldn't have to see Yeti's sad face. It had a check engine light for 3 months before trade in as I wouldn't throw another $500 up it's tail pipe. Add to that changing driving patterns in retirement.

Kept my engine cover too! I gave my TDI a pat on the roof and wished it the best while thinking that it was probably headed to the crusher.

I got so emotional I jumped up and down and ran out of the dealership and jumped into my 2015 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid that VW bought for me with the BIGGEST smile on my laughing face!

I cannot understand getting attached to a car. But to each their own. If I can buy a used car, put almost 100,000 miles on it and sell it for $6000 more then I paid for it years later the only emotion you will get from me is a smile as I get paid.

'dude, as I've indicated in a prior post, your sense of humor merits praise..............

(but methinks you're among those who just don't 'get it' - and that's OK)

I so wanted my vw symbol as well (I have 2 from previous cars), but chose to leave it. I was emotional until I got in my new truck.

Just turned mine in....couldn't have gone any smoother...ended up with $500 more than expected. Only real sentiment is that both my kids were brought home from the hospital in that car, when they were born. I think the 97 outback when ready to go will be missed more, it has more of the old golden retriever first family dog thing going on.

Took the TDI letters and TDI floor mats. Will put TDI badge either on the subaru or the 2006 lexus es300 with 42,00 miles on that I am picking up from my grandmother in law and driving from tampa to new haven.

at the end of the day it's just a car and I'm glad to have the money and the feeling of something big happening and lots of money going into it, happen.

I'm looking at older ALH tdi's but people on craigslist are asking riduculous money. Were talking 3-5 grand for an 04 with 180-200 plus on the OD

What do you want to pay for one? $2k? 3-5k sounds like a fair price range based on this new TDI market. Parts cars sell for $1k or more.

Not sure what other car you could buy for $3-5k and enjoy as much.

Just finished vacuuming 14 JSW. Buyback tomorrow @11 AM. 64,840 mi in 2 1/2 years. Car never let me down. Have to admit I felt sad. Wiped door jambs for the last time.
As if the car knows what's in store for it, the last 3 days I have had to put a battery charger on it to start it. Never had a problem before.
Looking out my window @ the 15 GSW SE 6MT I just hope it is as trouble free as the 14.
BTW after I post this I am going down to shop & pull the engine cover off.
Thanks for the idea

Enjoying our last few days of spirited seat time in the TDI 6M before it leaves us next week. My wife has been cleaning it out and we both feel a bit sad because we've greatly enjoyed the car. Our new 2017 Golf Wolfsburg 5M replacement just arrived, so parting with our TDI will be a bit less traumatic.
