I am thinking about doing the Malone Stage 2 ECU mod....Dealer keeps talking about the DPF delete also, but I just can't justify his price between the 2

For a Malone Stage 2 he wants to charge $700 which I guess is a good price considering labor and all for the tune....However, he wants $3,000 to do a complete DPF delete which includes the Malone Stage 2 reflash.

What I don't understand is he says he uses the Rawtek DPF down pipe (online it looks like $549) and then Malones Stage 2 tune $700...Is there really +/- $1,700 in labor to take off the DPF??
Granted I am completely ignorant when it comes to a VW TDI engine but that just seems like pure greed to remove a DPF (based on videos I've watched) and to install a downpipe.

Am I crazy and uneducated or is the guy trying to take me to the cleaners??

Our tune is $549 retail and takes a maximum of one hour labor to install (more like 20 minutes), the dealer can charge you labor atop that and is paid a considerable commission for the install. We sell flashzillas for $196 shipped which would allow you to do the install yourself, and lets you re-flash the car to stock if you ever have to go into the dealer for servicing.

The full kit is actually $800 http://www.rawtekinc.com/products/dpf-egr-delete-exhaust-eco-kit

$549 for the tune, $950 for the exhaust (shipped), 1 hour labor for ECU install @ $100, 5 hours labor for downpipe install (an unreasonably long amount of time) = $500, 15% tax on everything for = $300

Even with those high estimates and 15% tax you're looking at 2400. That's some serious price gouging.

I'd be purchasing a flashzilla and taking the pipe to a normal exhaust shop to install. It does not take a specialist to install a downpipe, any good shop shouldn't have an issue considering the pipe is well fabricated.

I paid $2700 at GDM but that also included the Malone DSG tune and having my Panzer Plate installed.

Is your dealer possibly charging you for the full Rawtek kit and not just the down pipe. The full kit is down pipe, mid pipe, cat and resonator, an pipe/polished tips to replace your muffler. That whole kit is $1500. I would find out what Rawtek system he is quoting you for.

He has not stated that he just keeps referencing the Rawtek downpipes...But he s a VW/Audi Diesel head so he might be thinking I know what the differences are...Will ping him tomorrow and verify it's just the down pipe or what it fully involves!

I'm very happy with my buzzken downpipe. Not that the rawtek isn't super high quality. The buzzken pipe is also a bit easier to install.

Are there any other Malone tuners in close proximity (200 miles or so) to Knoxville, TN? I had talked to one down around the Atlanta area a year or so ago and I can't remember the name of the company...They were just north of Atlanta.

Holy Guacamole. I just paid 1049.00 to have the car tuned and deleted. I did purchase the exhaust direct from Rawtech, and it I got the eco kit and it was 755.00 shipped.

It took a lot longer than 20 minutes to flash the tune though LOL. They ran into an issue that they hadn't seen before. I will give it to Malone, he worked on the tune until after midnight on Friday and was at it again on Saturday morning and Brian at Digisport was up late and there early as well.

Car runs awesome!

I kinda want to know who is wanting to charge that much!

You should really wait until after you get the emissions recall anyway.

Install time may vary depending on whether or not you're in the same room as Mark :p The read/write don't take too long, but there's usually a wait on files or some other weird issue. The tools are made in Italy so they can be a little moody at times. Glad you're liking the tune!

You were probably talking with Andrew @ aarodriguezcorp/fixmyvw He stocks both the buzzken and rawtek exhaust systems
here's Ken's
http://www.fixmyvw.com/mk5-6-golf-j...i-downpipe-midpipe-for-dpf-delete-by-buzzken/
and rawtek's
http://www.fixmyvw.com/rawtek-golf-tdi-dpf-egr-delete-exhaust-eco-kit-2009-2015/
Their # is 678-535-7172 and you can contact them at aarodriguez@malonetuning.com

They should be able to sort you out with an install for considerably less.

Thanks all for the information and pricing on the DPF delete...As mentioned above, I'm now going to WAIT till VW settles with the emissions recall...I've gotten my letter from them. As Tennessee does NOT have emissions testing (violates state constitutions settled years ago like 40 years). I'll wait till VW cuts me a check and then do the DPF delete at that point...VW will probably FORCE us all to go to a local dealer for some stupid reason to get a check cut...So time will tell but I'm now in hover mode until VW gives me my $6,000 check!

If you are going to keep the car and have them fix it, time will tell.
I would do all the race stuff you wish as long as you can get a sticker in your state.
Most deletes cut out 2-3 readiness not ready= no sticker.
All of these shops put a lot of time and money in to the TDI program. So all those that say I will wait plan will hurt all of them. So those that keep there loved TDI have a 2 year plan to have some fun with there car and VW will be paying you to have it.

Come down to Atlanta, have Andrew Rodriguez (fixmyvw.com) flash your tune and pick up your Buzzken downpipe and I'll install it for half the quoted price. If Andrew lets me install it on his lift I'll split it with him.
