Just seen a TV programme hear in the U.K about making your own fuel for diesel vehicles...
This involved a mixture of 97% vegetable oil mixed with 3% white spirit and poured straight into the tank!! Then went on to show a diesel Volvo running on the stuff.

I was under the impression that fuel of this nature has to be heated before use in a diesel engine.
Has anyone tried this??
We currently pay around 80pence(1.25USD) a litre here in the UK.
According to the programme this method costs around 26pence (.4USD) per litre... Taxman payments included of course!!

Look around here you will find several references to a crackdown in the UK on untaxed fuels by way of folks making their own without settling with the tax man.

Not quite sure what you mean by "white sprit." If this is kerosene, or another form of petro-diesel, there is no reason to expect it to work without being heated first. WAY too viscous. If you mean alcohol, either ethanol or methanol, then it still won't work without being heated, due to STILL too viscous, plus it will be hard on rubber fuel system components in the stock configuration. At 3%, the alcohol is way too little to make biodiesel, even with the requisite catalyst, which isn't mentioned here.

My guess is that somebody (prolly the tax man) is trying to catch out those prone to cheat by making them gum up their cars, then swear off when they get the bill for repair.
