Hello,

Just did the 40k service on my '10 TDI Jetta SW. When changing the fuel filter, is it normal for there to be any amount of metal shavings on the top of the filter? A small amount of very fine almost sand like, but silver in color was on top of the filter. I've read that this can be a sign of potential problems with the HPFP, but is it normal for there to be any amount of material in here, or do I need to start calling my dealer?

IMHO, if normal you shouldn't be able to "see" metal specks at the top of the FF. Something is wearing.

Did you take pics? Did it look like mine at about 26k miles? See this thread and this thread for my failure at 44k miles.

Within the month I'll be doing my 60k FF change. I can't wait to see the top of the FF.:D If I see metal, I will take pics, button it back up, and take it to the dealer as I need to get the damper recall done anyways.
