This is my fiancee's car, she got a Prius... I'll be listing it soon but wanted to put it out to the TDI community before listing on CL. We're in Newtown CT.

183xxx miles, I did the timing belt @ 126000 (IDparts kit). Always serviced on time with LiquiMoly (IDparts kits).

The good; last year of the ALH, runs excellently and get's 40-42ish mpg with my lead-foot fiancee's mostly around town driving. Transmission/clutch good. Everything works. Starts easy in the winter (has an oil pan heater but didn't need it after replacing the battery with the correct one).
We bought the car with 126k, it had a grease car kit which I promptly disabled, it still has the tank in the spare tire area, switches and gauge, solenoids. I don't believe it was driven on grease too much and it has shown zero oil consumption between 10k changes.

Comes with 2 extra wheels with studs, brand new carpets & weather mats & trunk liner.

The bad; CEL comes & goes, I have not scanned it yet (buddy has vagcom) but it doesn't affect anything noticeable. Warped or glazed rotor causes shaking but braking action is still good. Minor rust at front wheel wells and on driver door pillar. Dent on left rear wheel arch and passenger door. Minor dent on rear lift gate. Front bumper is a bit crooked and one head light was replaced with a cheapo. Duct-tape residue on rear window from temporary license plate. Medical tape on cluster as the brights indicator was too bright.

We have full maintenance & fuel records. It's been serviced by myself and a local CT guru.

Interested to hear what you folks think it's worth. Thanks!!

You've got a CEL that you don't know what it is AND you're asking for estimates on a sale price? I'd think I'd want to know more about this before offering any suggestion. But... I'll proceed and assume that this could be something significant.

Calipers could be bad.

As far as the rust being just minor, how sure are you?

I'm struggling to see how this could fetch anything over $3k.

Folks need to keep in mind that geographical location has a lot to say how much something will fetch. Here in the PNW stuff goes for a lot more than in rust-belt areas.

If I was a buyer this is the part that would probably worry me most. I just don't like cars to be chopped up at this level, but if it was given a green light by a trusted mechanic I might overlook it.

I'm about to list up a similar car. I'm just waiting to sort out a CEL that is related to a glow plug. I think I'm going to ask about the $4500 and see what happens. My guess is that $3-5k is the right window for these cars these days, heavily condition dependent.

I suspect my kid's '03 could be pried out of her for somewhere around $5k. For comparison it has lived in Florida its entire life (garaged), has no rust on it and has never been hit. A couple of stone chips in the windshield but they've been there a LONG time and have not spread (and we have the conditions to cause it with the heat around here if it was going to.) AC works but very weak; she has waved me off on replacing the RCV (charge is good, and so are the fans and clutch -- no odd noises either so odds are near 100% that's the problem.) Everything works, no CELs, DLC1019s in the car but no tune, OE clutch, 5spd. Interior in decent condition, paint still good (no sunburn problems on the hood or top). Consumes about a quart of oil over a 10k oil change interval. Timing belt done in the last few thousand miles (by me), IDparts full kit, pump was resealed and gone through by DFIS around ~170k. Front brakes have plenty of pad left, fluid flushed every 2 years, rears replaced ~6 months ago. All components other than wear parts original (including the clutch; gearbox has never been out of the car.)

~230k miles on the clock.

Brake wear indicator light is on in the cluster photo. Maybe the pads are done, which is causing the pulsating.

I should have mentioned the brake wear indicator. The brake pad wire (to the wear sensor, the disposable side) was broken while replacing a wheel bearing. The pads look good and I think the shaking is because my fiancée bought cheap rotors when I last did them. I'll post up full maintenance log tonight.

All that little stuff will get you maybe $3000 on the high end. People hate damaged exterior and dash light warnings.

OK now place an Ad in the classifieds section.;)

BTW - In your listing(s) PLEASE, when referring to things that are supposed to stop your car as BRAKES, not BREAKS.
