Vermont/New Hampshire

Hi everyone, does anyone have any good reccomendations for a TDI mechanic in Vermont or New Hampshire? I live in the Upper Valley, pretty mid-state north to south and spanning the Connecticut River (Local Towns/Cities are Hanover/Lebanon for NH, White River Jct./Norwich in Vermont). Thanks all!

mrchill-One of the Good Guys

Just wanted to thank Chris(mrchill) for making it possible for me to buy my new(used) TDI. I couldn't have done it without him.

The car was in Massachusetts and I live in Minnesota. I had to fly to Boston to buy the car sight unseen and drive it back home. Chris was kind enough to check out the car for me and let me know it was mechanically sound and in good shape. He answered all my questions and gave me some peace of mind about flying out to buy the car.

The car is back in Minnesota now and made the 1600 mi. trip just fine. I wish I lived close enough that he could work on my TDI's. I did figure out that even with fuel and tolls; it would still be a bargain compared to the dealership!

VW Specialties helped me out!

My TDI is back on the road again.

I was able to replace the 109 relay myself but the car would not turn over.

Just wanted to recommend VW Specialties, in Huntington Beach. Ron took
my car in the next day(I had it towed), checked it out and put in a new battery....I'm good to go now.

Put a service request in to Wild Rose on his website and even emailed Harv
through his TDI Club ID but not even a response............

Now lookin for a TDI Guru here for Speed upgrades (RC3, boost valve,downpipe,etc) while also adding some
reliabilty protections (fuel filter upgrade,etc).

Call Roger Feldt at 678-907-4221. When David Brubaker (davidbru2) left Atlanta, he turned over his timing belt work to Roger and Troy. I don't know if either one of them is on TDIClub, so just give a call.

Clarabess: how do we know any of these shops know a thing about VW TDIs? What work have they performed for you? Do they have one or more TDI experts, or are they just general diesel mechanics? Do they use the proper tools when changing a timing belt? Do they replace all required parts, or do they cut corners? Do they torque to the proper specs?

The reason I ask is that we're starting to get complaints about some of the shops or individuals on this list. So perhaps we ought to vet them, before recommending them?

Maybe we should do what AAA and others do: make a "certification" of sorts for shops/individuals to have to get in order to be on the list. Meaning a list of some tools, etc.

I proudly say and advertise as to my Volkswagen specialties, and I have a boatload of tools, information, etc. to back that claim up. Even a growing list of happy customers. But sometimes a third party 'seal of approval' goes a long way to put someone's mind at ease.

I do not know how one would go about doing this, but I would sure be up for it if it brings more work in the door AND keeps these cars and their owners happy and safe.

Since issuing some kind of certificate isn't going to work, what might help are:
1) If the owner or head mechanic joined TDIClub and discussed the kind of work he performs, number of TDIs typically worked on in a week or month, special tools that are used, how long he's been in business, etc.
2) If the person recommending the shop describes, in detail, the kind of work that was performed, charges for specific work done, whether the shop works only on TDIs, on all VWs, on all European cars, or on every car of every make. (Does this shop specialize?)

I'm not sure what the protocoll for getting someone up on the trusted mechanics list is, but I'd highly reccomend Jason from Full Circle Automotive - He really knows his stuff on these cars, and is also highly skilled with veg oil systems as well.

While it is hidden in BB's list, I must give props to FixUmHaus. Not only are Rich and Marcell knowledgeable and honest mechanics, they are also a Pacific nw TDI community focal point. They brought chiptuning get-togethers to Portland and in general are a great place to go to maintain and upgrade up your TDI.

They have been doing work on all the VW's in our family incuding our 3 TDI's (I have recommended them to several other VW owners who have been very happy with their service). They recently replaced the seals on my 2002 Jetta's Injector Pump and saved me a ton of $$$ over the years. Recently they have have replaced IP seals on several other TDI's.

Zahn tech import automotive write up

The guys at Zahn Tech are great guys. it was a little hard finding the shop in Redmond but i did and the service was great. they offer a shuttle to take you to work or the mall, but i found it was a lot more fun to sit and talk with the guys in the office.

Timing belt was done in 4 + a little hours. scan found that my check engine and aibag lights were out. had an issue with the coolant tank, were it wouldn't seal. mathew was great and even drove all the way from redmond to lacey(olympia) to fix this, after work. i am so greatful to the guys up there and Matthew really knows what he's doing, and he's great to talk to about really cool mods.

Does anyone know of Trusted TDI Mechanics in Barrie, ON, Canada or the surrounding area? I know of a "VW/Audi Specialist" on Tiffin St. but I've never brought the car there myself.

Trusted Mech in Waukesha/Milwaukee, WI

I see on the list Madison and Kenosha. What about Waukesha or Milwaukee?

I drive by "Jim's Bug Place" in Waukesha and see lots of Bugs and the occasional TDI but don't know anyone who has used him/them.

Anybody know?

Matts not in Kenosha. He's in IL about 50 miles SW of Kenosha.

There may be shops that do VW but non have remotely the TDI specific amount of work I've done.
