I had a Passat come in the other day for an oil change, because her oil light came on, turns out she was not even on the dip stick. I looked under it, but didn't get a chance to pull the timing cover off to see where the leak was coming from. She was in a rush, so threw in some new oil for her and sent heron her way.
Has anyone else seen cam seals leaking this early? Could be this lady never changes her oil, and maybe as a result a failure like this at 85k.
Seemed crazy to me that at that low of milage a cam seal would leak. The leak was all down the passenger corner of the motor as high as the engine mount bracket. Nothing up near the valve cover. Timing cover was wet in places too.
It's bugging me, wish I had time to pull it apart to see, just to satisfy my own curiosity. ?
