I keep wondering how you get such a high MPG!! I have a 1997 Pssat and I've peaked at 52mpg. Past two months I've been driving around at 60-65 mph during the day with AC on and 55 at night. I have 24 miles of freeway and I set the cruise and leave it. It can't be because of the hills, but I guess it is. I don't race around on teh surface streets either. This month here are my stats:

Miles: 963.5
Gallons: 19.413
Model Year: 1997
Model: Passat
Tranny: 5M
Fuel Type: ULSD

PS: Last three tanks I've been driving in the 1500-2000 RPM range about 95% of the time when accelerating and whatever it is at (too tired to recall) when I'm doing 65mph.

First tank since installing new clutch.....

Is it possible that replacing the cracked stock clutch and stock 22lb. flywheel with a lightweight 14lb. one (shipping mistake that I had no choice but to install) could have helped my mileage? I wasn't even trying.... I was driving with a heavier foot than normal and I got better mileage than when I was actually trying to get over 46MPG....

I'll be trying on the next tank and we'll see what I get. I'll be cruising around 2000RPM with slow acceleration for the next 700 miles.... Gunning for my first 50+ MPG tank! (STILL!!)

60% highway, cruise with pulse & glide on downhill stretches. I was also in stop and go (crawling 2 miles) traffic for 1 hour.

Comments: Yeah, I'm in the 1,400 mile club with room to spare!:D 59.28 mpg for the tank. No exotic techniques or scangauge, just no A/C, 55 mph (1900 rpm) on cruise, shifting at 2,250 rpm, predominantly rural driving on my 130-mile round trip daily commute. OK, now back to A/C on and driving like an a-hole, which for me is like 65mph!:p

Totals for August: 3,774.9 miles / 73.492 gallons = 51.365 MPG

none, (yet)
You should make the chart downloadable in an excel format so that if we wanted to play around with the data we could easily. for example, if i wanted to see how 02 jetta's fare against 04 golfs in mpg with b20 and dino deez, we could punch that in excel, compile the data from all months listed.

There's been pluses and minuses on that. Most of the contest coordinators keep their old ones if you want to play around with it.

She had two refills for the B4 in August. They are combined above.
I also had two more, combined above, in additional to the third one already listed.

I could be wrong, but didn't the A5 Body Style start in 05.5? I looked at the pics, too and he does have an A4, but under the pics says 2006, so that rules out a typo. Is it possible that the car is actually an 05 (as opposed to 05.5)??? If I'm wrong, please someone correct me, but I've been referring to A4's as the 99.5-05, and the A5's as the 05.5-Present.

EDIT: I did notice he was in Mexico. Did they still sell the A4 body style into 2006 there?

Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner!

Also, A4 Golfs were sold in the US in 2006. A4s continue to be sold in Canada as well as the "City" models.

I filled up in Denver and drove UP the mountains to Ouray...does this make any sense at all? That MPG going up hill with a fully loaded(to the brim) car and another adult passenger?:D

All highway. 60-65 MPH on interstates - unless traffic dictates faster. 55 MPH on state highways. This is the second month since I changed fuel sources. Previous source was the local station with unbranded fuel. Now it is mostly Flying J and a bit of BP - these stations at least have the face to put their own name on the diesel pump. This is the first month that shows real benefit to the switch:

* Less soot
* More power on hard acceleration
* Turbo spools quicker
* Engine needs less make-up oil
* Better FE
* Slightly better low speed driveability

This is from changing the fuel source, not "blowing it out" - it gets run hard in the mountains and gets "blown out" routinely.

Most of it were highway miles, 65-80 mph. No consideration for economy just feeling happy and chipped, yet pieces are still holding toghether.

Reminder - This thread is for tanks filled in August, and will accept entries until 5 September. This gives some of you plenty of time to correct your entries to correct format (see post 1 if there are any questions).
