Not that it is a problem, but I got alot of smoke from my '04 TDI PD, on frigid morning starts, it would stumble a little, for maybe 10-15 seconds, smooth out and be fine.
I started using Stanadyne Performance Formula fuel additive.
The cold start smoke is nearly eliminated. Just a tiny puff, and it does not "stumble", or missfire. Starts and runs smooth. The benefits of using it,for lubricity as well as a cetane boost,(which clears up the smoke issue),made sense to me. It seems like it runs with a little more zip, but that could be my imagination,??...I know it runs great,imagination or not!!
I thought I would post my results in case somebody out there is wondering about an additve.
