Well that's rather anticlimactic. I was expecting a rich, in depth, compelling story.

this thread is really missing the bitter ranting element that has come to define the TDI buyback experience as seen on the web.

Come on folks, surely there was some impossible to handle minor issue to flip out over in these buyback stories??

RIP 2012 Passat SE 6 spd MT
I turned in a Golf yesterday,
Their coffee was cold I must say.
That ruined my journey,
I'll get an attorney -
By God, I'll make Volkswagen pay!

Worst part of my buyback was a HUGE turd in the toilet! No S&*T, after an hour drive I went into the head to relieve myself, nope...HUGE turd. So I told the VW man and went and did my two buybacks. 15 minutes later...TURD still there. Still no toilet paper in the bowl. I used the womens...you know, equal rights and all!

Process to turn in car at Audi dealership 15 minutes. Time it took for representative to remove my license plate-30 minutes. Screw hole mount began turning in base on trunk lid. Took 2 service techs to remove it.

No turds in sh1tter at my dealership. Audi>>VW.

Wait your dealer had a sh1tter? Damn, I had to use the oil change pan in the service bay. Lots of strange looks, and thumbs up from the service techs.

My process took about 15 min as well. The representatives (yes, two) were fairly efficient. Mostly with their quick answers to my (common) questions. I'm sure they had repeated themselves umpteen times that day alone. The cross-eyed guy with a lisp had to borrow my screwdriver(s) to remove the license plate. I had two phillips and two torx screws on there... I had my wife pick me up out front of the dealership in our freshly washed 2015 Outback 2.5i Ltd for giggles.

The money showed up in my account 5 days later.
The non-VW bank loan was paid off about 18-20 days later.
The check for overpayment of loan was sent back to me 35 days later (made 2 payments from time of final interaction with VW claim portal). Came with notification of lien being removed and loan paid in full from my bank.

Paid $19,500 for the JSW used with 38K (my third TDI; previous 2005 and 2010 wagons)
Received $19,875 or something close to that after driving for two years.
Logged right at 80K miles and turned it in with 118,377 on the ODO.
Did not pay for timing belt/water pump service!!!

Overall it was a good experience. I would buy another TDI. I like the size of the Subaru OB and AWD, but do very much miss the german driving dynamic of a VW.

Bought our '12 Jetta TDI in Sept '12 ... turned in today at Autobahn in Ft. Worth. When the money is in the bank ... I'll be happy with the deal. Should have had the appointment to turn-in 3 months ago ... but hey ... it's done now.

Agent made note of the 70 miles difference in the application and today. "Yessir, because of this fiasco, the insurance value was almost 10K less than the offer. It's been PARKED. I considered hauling it up here rather than "two ship" with the missus ... "
