I can't find a website for UK's "car" magazine, but on page 28 of the August issue there's an article that says Maserati will unveil its new Quattroporte sedan and one of the powerplants that will eventually make its way into the engine bay is a "heavily retuned" version of the V10 TDI engine slated for use in the VW Phaeton.

The engine which is quoted as making 309bhp in current tuning will be "heavily retuned to give it more sporting character."

Maserati envisions revising the fuel injection systems and trimming weight and is quoted as saying the V10 "must go over 5000 rpm," and that a low-rev torque peak was not as crucial as strong performance at high revs.

The car will initially be powered by a 400 bhp version of a 4.2-litre Ferrari-based V8.
