Wow I hit just under 600 miles on every tank minimum. And that is driving 30-40 miles an hour through town. All highway I get very close and have hit 700 miles on one tank.

I don't even think twice about hitting 600 miles on a tank (on the 2000 NB) - if I fuel before then, it's more for convience than I "need " to fuel up.

700 Miles - now THAT is an accomplishment - I have hit that a time or 2 under the right circumstances.

I haven't had a tank under 700 miles in I don't know how long. My average miles per tank over the last 134K is 697.

Do the ventectomy!

I only ever hit 600 a couple of times with my old Golf with the auto. My newer 05 with the 5sp is almost always over 700 I've even had a handful of tanks over 800.

As has been noted, easy with a manual, not so automatic with an automatic.

I'm currently trying to record an 800 mile tank in Golf #3 (for the trifecta).

Can drive like I stole it. 80 plus and still get
700 to 750 and still have a 1/8 left.
All stock except the sprint nozzles and vented.

I made it to 600 miles... well, except that I put 5 dollars in just in case.

I normally fill up around 500 miles, but I have no doubt I could go over 600. I fill mine when ever I get to a 1/4 of a tank always have done it that way in previous cars. I have not touched the vent.

When I had my 2002 Jetta I did several tanks of 1,000+ miles each. Yes, it was about empty but I never ran it dry either. So 600 miles is nothing - gotta shoot for 800 or more per tank to be considered an accomplishment in an A4 platform ALH.

ummm.. ok... you are getting 62 mpg (assuming a 16 gallons)?

This is not typical or normal so expecting others to get that makes your post bragging at best, disingenuous at worst.

Hit my "third"* 800+ mile tank. Third as in third car to do it: first for my new blue Golf. 14.996 gallons to refill. 53.5 mpg. Could have driven it more gently, but... at this point it start to become harder to do not for the car, but for the driver! (driving with a light foot for 800 miles is really tough!)

How many miles did you go with the low fuel indicator on? I would recommend carrying a miteyvac and a pair of pliers. ;)

51 miles. I've actually done more in another car: first try at 800 miles. And, I'm driving pretty much highway, so my FE average can be expected to be around 50 mpg.

My general rule is to try to not exceed 40 miles following the fuel light coming on.

For those not familiar with the ventectomy, it doesn't affect how many miles you can go after your fuel light comes on. You can freak out people by pointing at your tripometer and your fuel gauge after using say 1/8 a tank- it'll be showing an insane amount of miles (because your gauge isn't graduated for the extra fuel you're shoving into it): I think you can hit 200 miles (which, multiplied by 8 would give you 1,600 miles- you're NOT going to get 1,600 miles!;); at 1/4 it's like 300 miles, and then by 1/2 a tank you're at 500 miles or so).

I've done some 900 mile tanks (two different Jetta sedans) and run with the low fuel light on for almost 75 miles (couple of times with a fuel can along "just in case").
My max fill, if I recall, was 16.3 gal.
It's been a few years now since I now seem do more short trips and errand runs instead of my work commute which made up the majority of the miles years ago.
800 mile tanks were rather common back then.

I can usually get just under 900 (870ish, three trips to Ct.) on a tank in the summer and it will take just over 16 gallons when I fill it.

In an unrelated conversation about mileage or fuel economy...

Yesterday I filled in 17 gallons in my tank. I reported that station to the Texas Agriculture Department's Weights and Measures division. I've never done that much fuel, especially when I estimated I had another gallon left.

By my estimation the pump was over reading by at least a gallon. That made their $1.99/gallon more like $2.12. The deception of these kinds of filling station owners needs to be met with tough enforcement. There were a number of stations that had 2.09 in the area.

Might also be concerned with fuel quality?
