T&E concludes diesel cars emit more CO2 on a full lifecycle basis than gasoline cars

http://www.greencarcongress.com/2017/09/20170918-diesellca.html

A new analysis by the NGO Transport & Environment (T&E) concludes that diesel cars emit more CO2 than equivalent cars on a full lifecycle basis—i.e., accounting for the emissions generated during production of the vehicle and the fuel.

According to the T&E analysis, an average diesel car produces emits 3.65 tonnes more CO2 than an equivalent gasoline car over its lifetime due to a more energy-intensive refining of the diesel fuel; more materials required in the production of heavier and more complex engines; higher emissions from biodiesel blended in the diesel fuel; and longer mileage because fuel is cheaper.

"...and longer mileage because fuel is cheaper."
If they are including that diesel cars get driven more miles,
then one would expect them to emit more 'lifetime' CO2. Duh...

The energy required to produce ultra low Sulfur fuel probably bumps the life cycle energy costs up...

Funny how almost every other study says the complete opposite.
Petroleum based fuels are going to get dirtier over time as easier to reach oil is used up and we are forced to resort to less conventional oil like tar sands. Diesel is only going to get dirtier... electric is going to keep getting cleaner.

Yeah, that was my first thought also. A more realistic statistic would be CO2 generation per mile driven.

Have Fun!
