I have searched the forum, looking for info on the part numbers for the arp main studs for the alh. I see them on darkside developments, but no part number. I am close to summit racing and just want to pick them up.

I wouldn't have thought the main studs were the same as all the old 8v engines. Thought they went about 15mm deeper? I will email arp if I have to, but ID parts is usually good, I didn't check there for some reason.

I'm curious why do you want to install ARP studs.

I am building an engine. First TDI, but have made IDI's go fast. I don't know where I will be for power, but it will be at least 190 whp and it is going into a heavier vehicle than our MKIVs. I like the extra tensile that ARP has, might do a main girdle, haven't decided.

I haven't heard of any ALH main bearing issues with ARL 12.9 bolts in up to 430 bhp builds - except in those that rev past 8000 rpm.

well, those high RPM main bearing issues may be the oil pump cavitating, not the fault of the block's rigidity

ETA: another vote for "waste your money on something that will actually make you power"

That list goes on and on for the rest of the golf the engine went into. Nothing feels better than to invest 7-8k into a $2000 golf..... all started from me finding a alh in the local junk yard for $150.

No smiles yet as I haven’t finished it yet. It’s a major project/ restoration now. Shaved the engine bay, wire tucking. Blah blah blah

AMC head is a mistake. They don't last. I got 20,000 out of an ALH head bought brand new. Frank Irving can chime in on them but they're not the same alloy that VW uses so they just don't last.

96 Passat B4V, ALH engine out of a 2002 Jetta, some IE Rods and ASV Pistons. Nothing drivable yet though
I'm about $10k or so into my MK2 ALH swap over the past 9 or so years, I've finished the motor a while ago and am awaiting paint. Still need to get the ECU out for tuning, I should be done in the next couple of months and then I will be able to enjoy that smile.

My golf will probably be a weekend garage queen. I have a truck and a mk6 that I drive plus my wife’s Touareg. Who knows when I’ll finish the dang thing anyways....

Totally disagree with you on the AMC Alh Tdi replacement head. I had a lifter come apart in one of my tdi’s, it destroyed a piston and head obviously. AMC was purchase new, which is well over a 100k miles and counting, on stage4 rc @ 28psi .
I also know of another person with roughly 68,000 on stg3 rc with AMC head .
When my OEM head let go, 2 Tdi guru’s gave the recommendations.

Not sure who darkside had them supplied from but the exhaust are 33.5mm and intake are 37mm. When I bought the head I had them do all the machine work. I’m not sure what the valve springs were from either. I know the springs were a combo of 2 different stock valve train springs but not a clue what.
