In case anyone is interested in buying loose electrical terminals to make up harnesses etc I have found this place in England that has most in stock:
These terminals apply mainly to Passat 3B and Golf IV style contacts.

Go to:
"Terminals"
"Non Insulated Terminals"
"Terminals for Mouldings"
I have used them a number of times and can recommend them.
Here is a list of their direct equivalent terminals to replace the VW repair wires that are the most commonly used:
vw repair wire 000979131 = Terminal 3-8020 (used on w8 light; mini ISO connectors on MFD; oil sensor etc)
000979133 = 3-7209 (most terminals on car 1.0mm wire)
000979225 = 3-7212 (same as 000979133 but for 2.5mm wire)
000979132 = 3-8010 (male pin for 000979131 above)
0001979129 = 3-8030 (male pin for 000979133 above)
000979103 = 3-8060 (e.g. male roof harness connector for W8 light adapter)
000979227 = 3-2050 (large female pins on dash switches etc)
If you are looking for the correct "furry" tape that VW use, it is available at your local VW dealer under Part number 000 979 950 ( they describe it as "webbing adhesive tape")
High temperature harness tape for engine bay: use BMW tape (same as the VW tape used on newer cars but I cannot find a VW number for it):-
BMW Part number 61 13 6 902588
Terminals required for relay plate:
Repair wire for pin 1, 3, 7 and 9 (smallest terminal) in relay plate:
1.0mm 000 979 133 (3-7209)
2.5mm 000 979 225 (3-7212)
Repair wire for pin 2, 5 and 8 (medium terminal) in relay plate:
1.0mm 000 979 135
2.5mm 000 979 227 (3-2050)
6.0mm 000 979 407
Repair wire for pin 4 and 6 (largest terminal) in relay plate:
1.0mm 000 979 114 (3-7000) Also available from Porsche with part number 999 650 103 12
2.5mm 000 979 212
6.0mm 000 979 405
I cannot find anyone who has the very small 000979009 equivalent for cluster wires.
Please let me know a source if anyone finds one!
Now you can make your own harnesses like factory without all the extra splices required if you use the VW repair wire!
