Okay, I've spent hours on the internet trying to find some answers, but nothing difinative. I have a 2004 Jetta TDI that gives a puff of blue smoke on startup, it is not blue smoke from oil, it is gas smell. It will only do this if the engine is cold. I have never noticed smoke any other time I have been driving. The engine will tend to sputter very little when I start it cold and will only smoke for maybe ten seconds then its good to go. I started this morning in whitehorse and it was -7.
Some things i've come accross on the internet:
- try unplugging the maf sensor then start it, that didn't work
- try changing glow plugs? wouldn't I have a light if they weren't working?
- try adding cetone rating to your fuel?
What do you guys think? I don't want to start wasting money trying a million different things.
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.
