I have 93k miles and I was wondering when I should be looking to change the timing belt?

2) anyone know the tool needed to remove the mass air flow sensor?
I tried a 25 TORX Safety Driver and it didn't fit???

3) Can the 2006 mass airflow be cleaned with CRC Mass Airflow Cleaner spray?

4) Does anyone have success with the K&N air filter? It had it in it already.

Thanks guys!

It's due now :)

Go to Metalnerd.com for the proper tool

You'd be wasting your time if you need a new MAF at this time ;)

4) Does anyone have success with the K&N air filter? It had it in it already.
K&N air filters have been nicknamed the "MAF sensor assassin"! Beware ;) BOSCH luvs K&N...I think they have a hidden agenda :)

Dieseldorf is 100% correct...

Toss the K&N in the trash where it belongs. Top it off with the can of CRC MAF cleaner too. If your MAF is not reporting properly, replace it with a new part from VW, and a new oe grade filter to keep it clean.

Hope you can correct your air mass flow meter. A new one on our 1996 Tacoma was $300. Solved its hot starting problem though.

well it came in the car, and then i thought I should replace it so I bought another one online. Then I learned they can be cleaned, and now im learning I shouldnt use one.

So the moral of the story is I have a new one and one in the car, looking to sell the new one and wondering if I should keep the one in the car....

Buy a new OEM and through the onein the car away. Sell the other on ebay.

Or return the new one and still buy a replacement OEM. Unless you want to buy a $100 MAF in a year too then keep running it in the car.

Check the Recommended Mechanics thread for TDI gurus in New Jersey, and also New York since Port Jervis might be reasonably close.

As you've learned, the K&N air filter has probably caused the MAF sensor to fail. Go back to the paper filter, or rather the MANN filter which is paper with a foam prefilter. You can try the CRC MAF cleaner, it might work but dust and grit and gravel striking it has probably permanently damaged the MAF.

According to VW, you should have replaced the timing belt at 80K miles, so you are overdue by 13K right now.

Yes, the 2006 models are 80K replacement (earlier was 80K inspect and 100K replace). No, I don't know why...
