control lights in switches on steering wheel

I have been having a problem with the lights in the cruise control and the radio control on the steering wheel they light up for six seconds and then go out tried to figure it out but never came up with the solution

I just learned my mult-function-steering-wheel has a button on the back (under) side of the steering wheel that turns the lights on the wheel on and off. It is like a raised dimple in the rubber behind the left lower control buttons (I think)
