Too Many Communication Errors to Continue

I've been trying to check a CEL on my 2001 Golf TDi but keep getting "Too Many Communication Errors to Continue". This is a on a ThinkPad 770 with a clean install of XP and a brand new Ross-Tech USB VAG-COM.

Any ideas?

Give this a try:

Check the power conservation setting for the USB, and make sure it is disabled.

right click "my computer"
Properties
Hardware
Device manager
click the + next to the Universal Serial Bus controllers
for any USB Root Hub, right click and properties
then Power Management tab
uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"

I had the same thing happen to me. I was using the wrong password to log in! I was using 12233 instead of 11223....
