Someone have advice on what this means and a easy safe way to fix it?
Or is this a dealer required fix?
Thanks

HERE IS THE CODE

Address 15: Airbags

Component and/or Version: 04 AIRBAG VW61 0202 0001
Software Coding: 12340
Work Shop Code: WSC 00066

Possible Solutions

Check Wiring from/to Airbag Igniter Passenger Side (N131)
Check Airbag Igniter Passenger Side (N131)

_______________

Now:
Anyone know where to begin?
I have found from searching that there are wires under the seat to check and clean with contact cleaner.

Do I pose a risk of blowing up the air bags or is this a safe procedure?

Thanks for any help.

From bentleys I found this is the front air bag.
Today I removed it (Fearing and thinking I was going to blow my head off).

It was easy except for the short wire connection.
I cleaned the connection with contact cleaner but still got the code.

Any other help or advice?

if/when you go to check wiring, DO NOT check resistance on the airbag!!!!! this could pop it! you can check resistance on the vehicle side (with airbag out), but at the bag is a big no-no.

i'd be careful and if your not positive about doing it without blowing up the bag, take it to a shop. but as long as you sit and think about it you will be ok.

but here is what I would do! disconnect your battery, unplug the airbag, unplug the airbag control module and make sure you got your correct two wires and do a resistance check on those two wires. wiggle some of the wires if your readings arent lower then about 0.3 ohms (depending on quality of meter) you have a wire issue. if you do, you will probably read some really high values or OFL (out of limits, meaning an open in the wire)
but if it checks out good, then your down to #1 bad airbag, #2 bad control module. I have seen plenty of both with another german brand!

but also, did you delete the codes in the system. i'm pretty sure just pulling the battery will not reset the airbag system, you must use a vagcom or modus to delete airbag codes (pretty sure anyhow)

good luck!

I have the same code. Did you find the problem? If so, what was the fix?

Thanks in advance.

my code:

Pulling the connector and making sure it's clean is probably worth doing.

That said, I have a customer that comes in every time it gets really cold here (haha like under 30F) for me to clear his airbag code because it throws that code when it's chilly.

Now it gives the same code but not Intermittent.

I think my air bag is bad.

I may look for a used one in Mexico from a USA car.

If you find another way to fix it email me. Thanks

Hope this helps.

Really? Only fix for this:
Address 15: Airbags
Control Module Part Number: 1C0 909 605 F
Component and/or Version: 08 AIRBAG VW61 0202 0001
Software Coding: 12344
Work Shop Code: WSC 00000

00589 - Airbag Igniter 1; Passenger Side (N131)
32-00 - Resistance too High
is airbag replacement?

Anyone else have any luck with any other solutions?

In Googling the code, i found the Touareg has a TSB (69-05-02, I think) that basically says to replace Japan connector with butt connector - although I don't understand TSB-ese, so I'm not exactly sure where this might be on a 2002 Golf. ;)

Would replacing the funky yellow connector with straight-up butt connectors possibly solve the problem? Or splicing in some of the VW repair wire?

Well, I went and ordered the harness for the passenger dash airbag. Part number for anyone else who might be looking is 1J0 971 582.
