Hi!

How much would it cost to get the parts to convert a bus or vanagon to a TDI? Not the engine, but the bellhousing, motor mounts, oil pan, etc...

thanks!

There are just too many to list....
That is a HUGE wide open question that could potentially have pages and pages of answers.

T2? T3? Water cooled? 15 or 50 degree mounting?

Excluding the engine, I put about $6,500 into mine. This includes wiring harness, intercooler and intercooler plumbing and fan, carrier bars, bellhousing, clutch, ecu, MKIV accel pedal, coolant hoses, timing belt, water pump, fuel filter, air filter box and filter, exhaust system, etc. It also included having the trans re-geared to match the power curve of the TDI. Mine is a Syncro which has a few extra expenses (diesel Syncro tank, modified skid plates) so for a 2wd you would probably save about $1000 from what I spent.

Hi!

Thanks for the responses. The reason I ask is that I have most of the parts to perform a 50 degree conversion and I don't know how much it's worth.

I'm moving, so I need to sell everything. Basically, I have...

Carrier bars,
Motor mounts,
50 degree pan and oil pump,
bell housing and
fuel filter housing

What should I be asking?

thanks!

Couple hundred maybe? You have all the OE T3 diesel parts I assume. This is not the ideal setup for a TDI conversion, but it can be made to work.

I think you can ask nearly double that for what you list, more like $400,
if the parts are in good shape.

When the economy was better, a truly complete kit, so flywheel, clutch,
and coolant hoses on top of what you have was around $1000.

Have a look at The Samba classifieds for reference:
