Default 2002 GLS without steering wheel, will I lose Cruise Control?

I am considering buying this GLI steering wheel.
I will lose my steering controls, but thats fine as I dont have OEM radio anymore and I barely use cruise.
However, I am realizing I do not think I can set cruise without it.
If you need the wheel to cruise, that is rediculous, but I got to guess the set and slow down buttons are just electric signals.
I wonder if I could fabricate those buttons?

You might be able to install the headlight dimmer 'stalk' that has the cruise buttons in it. My dimmer failed and the replacement was slightly different. I have the buttons on the wheel and now also have them on the stalk. Not sure why it came that way - 1stvwparts.com (dealer) order....

Regardless, both sets of buttons work. I don't see any reason why your '02 would be different.
