doesnt really explain anything. ive read through the whole thread. vw has to do buybacks until september so how exactly will they do them if they are also allowing dealerships to opt out of participating? they are going to do housecalls? somethings gotta give...
The concern here seems to (generally) be that the nearest participating dealer may end up a long drive away. This may well be a valid concern for some, but in my case I have four dealers within a 90 minute drive, so I'll take my chances. Chicago is about 2.5 hours away, so that's a worst-case scenario, plenty of dealers up there......

Because the whole thread is about no more buyback "specialists", not no more buy backs. They will be done, just differently than in the past.

I logged into the claims portal this morning and can no longer make a buyback appointment at the local dealership closest to me anymore. The portal lists 6 dealerships within 50 miles from me and 2 of them do not have appointments anymore, although as of last week, both of then did offer appointments until mid-June.

The remaining 4 dealerships still show appointments available through the 22nd of June, but only 1 or 2 days a week.

I wonder if this is a sign that my local dealership is no longer participating in the buyback program.

I had appointments for this and next week at local dealer. Just got a call that ALL of them are cancelled.

Closest new available is far and extremely inconvenient to bring several cars to. This is going to suck.

They have probably hit their percentage numbers, so at this point there is no incentive for VW to buy back the cars unless they have to. Of course there's nothing in the consent decree saying it has to be convenient to take the buyback option, just that it has to be offered. I suspect the people trying to wait until December might find that there are not enough appointments when they get close, as well.

VW Squeeze play is on?

*Several* gives the suggestion you bought a *few* after dieselgate was going.

If so, why have you delayed the BB until now.

For those of us (like me) who are already registered, it only remains to choose an appointment. If no buyback appointments are available when I try to select a date, there's the basis for some more legal action. Meantime, I've still got a perfectly good car to drive. And they're also not going to get away with making me drive 1,000 miles to turn it in......

Because I continue buying them and have appointments for multiple cars almost every single week.

Great. :D

Hope you continue to get (deep) into VW's coffers. :):)

Only advise is to pay enough less for new acquisitions to cover the additional cost of "flipping" one.

.... what is the farthest distance you bought one?

Good luck in your future with dieselgate. Hope you can-will-might buy and sell 100+ :D

When this whole thing started, there was lots of speculation about who and where was doing the buybacks. It took a little while before we all learned that the buybacks would be done at the dealerships. Now having to sit through a e-buyback seems like more hassle and time, but it is still going to be a buyback. As others have said, I'm not all that concerned if I decide to do the buyback since I have 4 dealers within 30 miles and probably at least that many more within 100 miles. I think I'll see if I can get my fix appointment scheduled for President's Day.

I just made the appointment for my Touareg. My local small town dealer is not doing them currently, I spoke to the GM and he told me about the transition to dealership personnel. Unfortunately I need to turn in mine by 2/26/2018 because that is when my extended warranty expires, I don’t need the vehicle anymore (already purchased my Passat TDI) so I want it gone before anything can happen to it.

The Phoenix dealers are still doing appointments, the first available was 2/26, so I’ve got to drive 140 miles one way and find a way home after. I’m guessing VW won’t cover my Uber to the airport or the $48 shuttle back to Flagstaff, not to mention the extra 5 hours of my time wasted.

It would be interesting to see how they handle a bill for the return trip. Not sure who you would send it to though. maybe send it to the judge with the lawyers on copy.

I just completed my buyback under the new procedure. I met with the sales manager of the dealership (Valenti VW in Watertown, CT -- props to them!), who connected me with a buyback agent via the tablet. Mine was the manager's first appointment doing it this way, and it went very smoothly, even with a major snowstorm going on outside! I was out of there in maybe 25 minutes tops, and I got the confirmation email on my way home.

The manager told me they are doing maybe 3-5 buybacks a month at this point, after doing over 600 since November 2016, so I guess that explains the change in course.
