Just purchased a B5.5 and I'd like to get an idea how long your all's are lasting.

If you've had the engine or transmission replaced or major service work, please mention it.

Follow this format:
2005 Sedan
254k
Factory Balance Shaft and Transmission

Thank you,
-Jason

My B5.5 has 178k on the clock. I have a few things to do to it. If you don't have a few things to maintain and do on these, you are not paying attention. My best friend for my car has been a spreadsheet showing all the oil changes, even to the point of indicating oil brand, filter brand and other notes. It comes in handy when you do your intervals.

2015 Golf Sportwagen 6 speed manual. B5 died at 302k miles.
256K miles. BSM delete around 170K miles. TC replaced about 40K miles ago. Car was totalled about 30K miles ago and repaired by Kraftwerk in Braintree. At that time did a CAT delete with a DarkSide downpipe. Stage 2 tune. Bilstein HD and the front springs were changed and the front sits lower. Rear springs are original so the car now looks a little funny.
Last "what did you do to your B5 today" project was a timing belt/water pump/door switch swap by VWztips

317,000 miles. BSM swap around 170,000. Transmission replacement at 250,000. About to put in my second replacement camshaft (going to try the Colt this time). Probably a half dozen half axles, and more axle boots than I care to count.

2005 Wagon (officially owned by Matt-98AHU)

Silverstone Grey

Geared BSM done by Matt before he later bought the car. Somewhere before 200k - the manual swap is going to see the BSM deleted altogether.

Currently 262k

DEAD TRANSMISSION - died commuting home on the Bay Bride June 2014. Been parked since. A manual swap is forthcoming. Still debating between 5 and 6 speed. The A-drum sheared off a bunch of its teeth. Left us with one forward gear (5th). We did limp it home without a tow.

Westfalia hidden goose neck hitch (this inadvertently doomed our trans. We towed a camper across the country and back Aug/Sept 2013 and then moved a couple heavy U-hauls worth of stuff not 2 weeks before it died.)

W8 HID headlights

2005 Passat Wagon, blue-silver, 98k miles, geared balance shaft, dunno about the cam. I know we've put 2 sets of used injectors in.

Previous owner insisted on running it on B100 FAME biodiesel. PDs don't like that, and the CA fuel is notoriously nasty. He did 15k in work including 2 sets of new RAxles, new trans, new injectors, and various other things to fix a vibration due to misfire due to ****ty fuel. He sold it to us for CHEAP with only 78k because he was so frustrated. We keep it on D2 or HPR. We've got it sorted out now. It's a wonderful car!
