How involved is it to convert an automatic to a manual trans? Engines are the same for the manual except for the injector pump, right? Is it OK to use an automatic engine W/a manual trans?
Thanks

No TDIs Currently, I have an R36 Corrado. I've had an ALH Corrado swap, AHU Corrado swap and 2003 TDI Jetta

if it is possible it should be very stingy on fuel. Take a look at the schematics for your car. there are separate wiring diagrams for autos and manuals compare and digest

Are you swapping gearboxes or replacing engines here? The differences between manual and automatic ALH engines is the coolant glow plugs - the automatics have none. Yes the injector pump is different, but the injectors are different too so the power output is the same.

Let's say that we're just switching out the gearbox.
The coolant heaters and the injectors won't matter - the only thing that you would have to do is change the software coding to be automatic so that it won't look for a clutch pedal.

Well, what would be involved physically? Remove the automatic and its shifter, and replace with a manual transmission, shifter, add a clutch pedal...
We'd have to connect the manual transmission to the brake fluid reservoir, right?
