VW Bug belt replacement taking to long

I am taking way to much time replacing belts in my old VW Bug. I am so frustrated I videoed myself installing in hopes one of you mechanical types can help me figure out what I am doing wrong. link below: Please be kind my skills are poor.

Didn't my 67 have some sort of cover over or around the crankshaft pulley? That is a neat video.

He must have removed that cover. Engines starting '61 on (40 HP and up) had it. That engine is newer than the 36 HP.
