I have a 2005 Passat GLS TDI wagon with the BHW pumpe-duse diesel with over 200K. I am having an intermittent issue with my brakes. is acts like I have no brake booster and it is hard to stop sometimes, due I have to press real hard on the brakes. when my engine is cold and is at an idle, also it happens sometimes with my engine is at operating temperature, and is at an idle. my question is the vacuum pump going out or could it be the check valve going out or the vacuum hose going from the pump the the booster? NEED HELP ASAP

Very common for the plastic line between the vacuum pump and brake booster to develop small cracks, or the rubber grommet at the brake booster end to age and leak.

You'll want to remove it and inspect carefully under good lighting.

Also check the vacuum part of the dual pump. The fitting comes loose and leak. There are threads on this if you search.
