hey guys, I chose the buyback option and have rescheduled once and now missed my re-schedueled appointment only to not re-schedule a new one because i'm unclear if there is a limit of times one can re-scheduele or if i can just do nothing and make a new appointment in a couple months.
I could call them but i thought someone here must know about this.
Thanks.

I think you can reschedule as often as you want. However, IMO, it's uncool to schedule an appointment and then just not show up. Considering folks are waiting 4-8 weeks to get in, it would be nice if your time slot was freed up for others. Next time, cancel 2 weeks out and reschedule. I don't know what happens if you just don't show up like it appears you did. I would recommend calling the claims number, but they'll probably give you the wrong information anyway.

Thanks. I called in the week before and the handler at the dealership gave me a few more days where i scrambled to find a replacement car and eventually called in the day of to cancel.
He told me to re-sched thru the website which i started, but never chose a date and have not re-visited. That was about 3 weeks ago.
Can i just not do anything until i know when i want to sell it back. Like just wait for months?

According to some of the lead attorney's Q&A last week, this is exactly what she recommends: get your ducks lined up, but don't schedule until you're ready.

Since you're already at that point, you probably know better than many of us -- does the Portal give you a nag screen when you log on? Does it have a cut-off date? I wouldn't think so, based on what's been communicated from counsel.

Ok sounds like you are in the hold state now. I would call or use the chat line to confirm if you can just wait.

I agree with chief poncho and PacCoastFwy923, there are many people waiting in queue who are not getting dates and most of the buyback agents are not vw and thus they would still bill vw for sitting idle while they could have helped people.
I do believe though that there is a certain date that you have to complete the buyback otherwise you will have to restart the process. Please check with the customer care agents when you talk with them.

I am in the process of completing the paperwork for the buyback now, as advised by the lead counsel for the plaintiffs in the Jalopnik interview. I got the offer letter and release, and got the release notarized yesterday. I will upload it today, and as soon as I get to the point where they ask me for a date to turn the car in, I'm just putting in the latest date I consider prudent (Dec. 17, 2018). I can always move that up later if I want....

From what I gathered when I turned in my TDI, the buyback specialists have 1 hour schedule windows, starting at 9:30 (at my local dealer), and probably going until 6:30/7:30. Probably can take 9 to 10 cars a day. Since the buyback takes about 10 to 15 minutes, to sign the paperwork, and have the specialist take pictures of the car, and maybe another 5 minutes to move the car around back.
There seems to be plenty of dead time that the specialist is billing VW. Even it it takes time to prep the paperwork for each buyback, if several paperwork preps are done in a row.

They are dealing with the public.

You need to allow a big enough window for the people who just popped over to Earth from Planet X to do their buyback.

Good news. They told me i can just wait until i'm ready and make a new appointment. No limit on times one can cancel. Changing to getting a "fix" and keeping the car is still possible. Buyback must be completed before December 2018.

Why doesn't vw have a drop in "DATE" every week

vw needs to man up and require one day a week for "DROP IN APPOINTMENTS" at all dealerships

There'd be a line around the block like an iPhone launch, and they'd definitely eff up your payoff.
no sweat
cause
one day (per week) drop in dates (Saturdays?) will be a zoo
5 days normal ~~ by appointment ONLY
If a drop by makes it ~~ great
If they miss ~~ use their "normal"scheduled date
or just show up next Saturday ~~ again and again:D
BTW ~~ vw to have NO regular scheduled appointment on Saturdays

Keep in mind that the offer is based on the miles you stated already, if you wait until 12/2018 your miles maybe different/more. Unless you estimated a correct number of miles on your return date of 12/2018.

Even you DID estimate the correct miles for your December 2018 buyback date, the estimated buyback in the offer would be incorrect. The buyback offer letter would not include the additional monthly mileage allowance.

The only way the offer and the actual buy back would be the same is if you DID provide the current mileage and and then drive an average of 1042 miles per month between the offer date and the date you turn the vehicle in.

Yes, perfect explanation, that is what I should have said.
