Will a standard transmission from a gas motor car work for an 99 alh mk4 diesel car.

I have one for sale. you need the Tdi version and mine had 165K miles from a 2002 Tdi GLI . recently serviced with Penzoil Syncro-Mesh. PM me in Indiana

Better yet, get the fifth Gear swap to 5.85 ratio. 70 MPH at 2000 rpm

The shifter mechanisms (linkage) are different from 1999.5 to 2000+ and 2002+... pay attention to that as well...

You can always swap the shift linkage as well. The shift linkage from the gas cars is identical. The junkyards have tons of MK4s to get the parts from. Just make sure to get a TDI transmission for the gearing.
