Anyone successfully done this ?

Not interested in the FM transmitters
They are useless where we live

Beetle has the standard radio & cassette player with the 6 disc changer in the trunk

and I’d like to swap it for the radio that has the CD built in so you can swap the CD easily for audio books

And install a Aux input or Bluetooth while I’m at it
And maybe replace the speakers too , they all sound blown out

This is all I can find

Apparently this one requires an aux jack ?

Ive used one of those "Aux cassette tapes" for years. Just recently had to solder a new input plug, as the conection cause wore out on the original that had been floating around the car for atleast 6 years. Anyways, they work well, keep the device at 80% volume and use the radio knob to adjust for preference.

Cant help with Bluetooth or the speakers or anything like that. But, vwvortex may have a bigger group of speaker junkies.

Cassette tape with a 3.5mm aux jack was my go-to for years.

Recently just put in a new deck that has aux, USB and Bluetooth...Paid $20 at Walmart and got the stereo adapter from Crutchfield.

I installed a Kenwood d-din radio I got from Best Buy clearance. (less then 1/2 price)
The Monsoon sound is no comparison to it.
Has GPS and all the other bells & whistles I want.

the crutchfield bluetooth works pretty well
although it does not put the cell phone calls through the stereo speakers which i was expecting,

and you can no longer use the rear 6 disc changer,

and their JBL replacement speakers sound great

also have a question about the wiring

id like to possibly swap the factory cassette unit for one with a CD
apparently the wiring was changed in 04?

im having trouble finding out wheather the CD units will work in the 01 beetle
i know the monsoon units are not compatible with standard units
but were there other changes?

seen several posts about replacing the radio in newer cars messes up lots of stuff.

also spent all day scrubbing the soft touch sticky goop off the dash and doors

I went with the Alpine IDA X001. I also put new Alpine Type S speakers with components up front and an alpine Type R 8" sub. I have 2 Alpine Amps driving all this. Works great with iPods and USB sticks. No Cd Player.

I haven't tried the bluetooth but I am sure that there is a part that can be had from Alpine for that.

My car didn't come with a 6 CD changer, just the cassette deck.
