TDI Hanging in 3rd Gear When Cold

This is the first winter I've had my 2014 Touareg TDI. It hangs in 3rd gear a long time versus the other gears when the engine is cold. It will drive around in 3rd gear running at 2,500 rpm rather up shifting. Is this normal? I saw one statement saying this was to decrease the pollution. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Normal, this was part of the emissions FIX that is very annoying. You can always shift manually if you wish.

Radman is correct the emission fix changed the shifting until the engine gets to normal operating temps. I is annoying vs my 2012 that was traded in for the emission scandal.

This was my first VW and my first diesel. I absolutely loved the Touareg. Had it last spring, summer and fall. Now this revving out in 3rd gear is driving me crazy. I'm kind of glad to know I am not the only one annoyed by it.

Do a search on club Touareg. A guy there has been flashing fixed transmission control units back to stock, for a reasonable fee.
