Would be great if you could possibly put up a few pics of the first meter or so of your exhaust Randy, i'm not completely happy with where mine is at the moment worried it might foul at full suspension travel. It's tight in there!

Here is a few pics that may help.
I'm not close to the suspension at all.
Also not as close to the starter as it looks in the picture but I wrapped the exhaust with heat wrap anyway.

Holy crap, this thing FLY'S!!
Going in for a front end alignment tomorrow so I have not put any miles on it yet. But very impressed with the performance.
The only things that don't work at this point are the speedo and tach.
I get that the tach will need a cam signal to get it going but was surprised that the speedo does not work??

the speedo does not work??
If the JTEC does not receive VSS, you should have a stored code for circuit performance. I regularly trip this code in my Jeep offroad when idling around in 4 low. I believe it is P0720. Is there enough of the JTEC harness left for you to pull its codes?

I had used the wrong wire for my 5V feed to the VSS sender. Once I had the correct wire the speedo worked fine.
Adding a digital Dakota box to take the crank signal and outputting sort of a cam signal the tach also now works.
A pretty good weekend and the best part was the maiden voyage. :>)
We just did a 3hr family run and its was pretty good. A few small items to fix.
Drivers seat is broken so I think some WJ seats are in my future.
Power windows only work from the drivers panel.
LOTS of black smoke when you stomp on it so I need to look into that. The tune may be a bit too aggressive for my use.
LOTS of power!
Cruises at 60 mph at about 1500RPM in 5th. I found I ran in 4th quite a bit which brought the RPM up to about 2000 which worked better in hilly areas which is most of our area.

It ran nice and cool the whole trip and the electric fans did not come on once.
A pretty good shakedown trip.
Did I mention LOTS of power!

31 X 10.50.
Vibration is definitely there but not terrible.
I have a new style mount coming late this week to try.

Darn impressive.
For a small mount it does a good job of reducing the vibration.
I want to use it for a few months to be sure it stands up.
Its rated 250lbs of static load per mount so they should work well.

Randy,

Good to see you are driving the jeep now. Makes me anxious for mine!

A side note for you guys trying to figure out space for the intercooler. The factory 4 cylinder radiator was mounted on the back side of the core support. This leaves lots of room for an intercooler.

I used a modified intercooler that took the place of the 4.0 radiator. With Randy's adapter it stills leaves space for an electric fan. I believe I have about 5"between radiator and crank pulley.

Also, what did you end up doing with the extra ports on the coolant lines that were used for egr and oil cooler?

Very good! I never knew that about 4cyl XJs! Where is the factory condenser placed in that setup? Where are you going to run yours?
I'll add my $.02 for an intercooler candidate:

Its from an older Sprinter van. Looks like it would work quite well!

The condenser sites right on front oh the radiator but still behind the core support.

How are you guys mounting up the pedal?
I really want to keep my factory pedal and actuate the VW pedal with a cable. Also perhaps piggyback the factory cruise servo onto that cable...

I think you would be wasting your time with the factory pedal. I thought about using it but ended up making an adapter plate for the jetta pedal. The tdi ecm might able to utilize the factory cruise switch. Jimbote has a writeup on here somewhere regarding cruise.

This is the bracket that we built but its for the electronic BEW TDI pedal.

It bolted to the floor and is very ridged.

evguy1: are you going to market the pedal bracket?

Everybody: is the BEW pedal going to be different than say an ALH pedal?

which ports are you keeping, the one's you're not using are you just plugging?
Yes nice rubber caps over anything not being used.
I think the only one I used was for the heater and capped all the rest.

I suppose if there is interest but I don't know what years it would fit.
Did they change the factory pedal mounting?

The OEM pedal for 1997-2001 is part number 52079206. It looks like it crosses to a couple other Chrysler vehicles as well according to google. Chances are that the mounting point is the same across a long range, with only cable length changing. I have had lots of XJs, a 1992, several 1998's and a 2000, and the firewalls all look the same to me.
