Hey, I'm hopeful I can get some quick advice, as I'm in a terrible spot. My '02 Jetta won't start. The problem started Thursday night, when it was difficult to start, but eventually did. Friday night, same thing, but it did start eventually and drove fine. Then Saturday, it wouldn't start at all. Typically, the car has started without difficulty since I bought it in the summer of '06. The car has 145,000 miles on it.
I'm currently near Brentwood, CA, away from my normal mechanic in Southern Oregon. I had it towed to a mechanic on Monday, and after some diagnosis he said he believed it was a glow plug problem. Although skeptical, I told him to go for it. He changed out all 4 plugs, but the car still won't start. Now I'm faced with a major dilemma--do I stick with this guy, or have it towed to someone else who I don't know in this area? We were supposed to go home today, but now we're stuck here for at least an extra day, if not more.
One more thing: my father-in-law suggested spraying some ether-based stuff into the air filter area, and the car briefly turned over and started, but only ran for 1-2 seconds. This leads me to believe the problem may be more based around getting fuel to the engine. I honestly don't have a clue, though. Anyone have any ideas, about either diagnosis, or a good TDI mechanic near Brentwood/Antioch CA?
Many thanks,
Jason
