According to the tutorial on the settlement site, after the offer has been received, signed, and either mailed or scanned and sent to VW, there will be a final approval. The next step is for the Owner/Lessee to schedule a buyback closing online through the portal.

I wonder how far this date can be scheduled out into the future?

I realize many want to get this over with asap and have already purchased replacements or have them parked, but what about those of us who are still driving them out of necessity and not quite ready to replace them for whatever reasons? It might be smart to give yourself time to find a replacement first and coordinate this to make sure you are not rushed into a deal. Also, what if someone were to schedule this for, say, October of 2017? Or 2018?

I don't see anything prohibiting this and wonder if the people who are planning to drive 1042/mo and then buyback at some point could go ahead and get all this taken care of now and then just have to wait for the date they choose?

I would suspect that you could pick your appointment date/time otherwise it's silly. Of course, we are all just guessing at this point.

I have an interest in this, too. I'd like to get the documentation / scheduling out of the way, if it means I can schedule my appointment for turn-in as close to New Year's Eve 2018 as possible. If not, if it's something like only 90 days out for the turn-in, then I'll do it Summer of '18. But I can't think of any reason why one would not be able to pick any appointment date in the buyback window that was convenient.

And the portal says 10 business days.

Thanks, 90 days is plenty to plan your paperwork processing in advance of any car buying activity.

I received my email confirmation from VW on 10-15-16 that the documents were approved and I would hear back with an offer within 10 business days. Other members received a similar message with varying verbiage but basically saying the same thing. It all hinged on "eligibility". It's been 11 days, but who's counting. :D

Regardless, once they reach out to us with their "offer", I can't imagine it would take long to schedule the appointment with the local dealership.

Not interested in buying another VW. Maybe a Passat R-Line only if discounted off MSRP. Most likely going to get a Accord Sport SE. Cost more upfront, but certainly much more reliable and cost less in the long run. (i.e. fewer repairs, issues)

Quick question, If I decide to refuse their offer and have my TDI fixed, is that an option at this stage of the game??

I hate VW! I'm still waiting for my documents to be approved (uploaded 9/18, 1 out of 4 rejected, resubmitted 10/11)

All I want is an appointment was they clear my documents. This is so frustrating as I force myself to ride my motorcycle everyday to work to avoid putting more mileage on the TDI.

VW should deploy 3rd Party Claims specialists to local VW dealerships ASAP! In that way it is way better communication than dealing with the VW Claims hotline representatives always playing DUMB! Wow they drive my blood pressure up so bad when they act like they have heads up their butts, they are so clueless on the documents approval. 3.5 hrs on hold just to talk to a claims representative that plays DUMB every single time............SCREW VW! I Just want my appointment scheduled!

My opinion, from reading through the settlement documents, is that you have the chance to change your mind until you except either offer, buyback or fix. You may have to call the buyback number and tell them that you want to change options.

VW doesn't care which one of those you decide to do. All they care about is hitting their 85%.

You know that it isn't VW themselves who are handling this, don't you? They've contracted with a third-party claims administrator, and that's who's developed the website, hired the phone staff, and quite possibly who'll be hiring (or who's already hired) the people who will be deployed to the dealerships. I think your anger is misplaced, and also entirely premature.

I think the 10 days starts once they determine you're eligible, right now they only have approved the documents to be able to determine your eligibility. The 10 day clock hasn't started for anyone yet

I received this yesterday:

"We have reviewed all of your documents. Currently, your application contains all the necessary documentation to determine your eligibility. We are now determining your eligibility and will inform you whether you are eligible to participate in the Settlement Claims Program and, if applicable, will provide you with a final offer, within ten business days."

I see that same message when I log into the Claims Site

Its 10 days from when they determine you're eligible. Having your documents accepted does not mean you're immediately eligible, once they they determine your if eligible you'll get your offer within 10 days.

So far no one has been notified that they are eligible...

10 business days means Monday through Friday. Your 10th business day is this Friday.

Ten days could not start until settlement finalized because there was nothing to be eligible for. So clock started Monday.

And 10 BUSINESS DAYS is indeed two weeks, not a week and a half. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays are not business days.

At this point how long should it take to determine eligibility? They have the needed documents and your VIN so it should only take a few minutes per car.

My documents were uploaded on 9/18 and the status hasnt changed since then.
ALTHOUGH... before I uploaded the documents there was a "tentative return date" of 11/11 showing on the portal when I first logged in. That has since been removed...
