Edit - Not Seized?? (Seized A/C compressor after 2 years)

My A/C compressor is seized and was replaced only two years ago. Could the shop have installed it with no oil?

If I put the A/C on the fans kick in but the belt slips on the pulled and it barely rotates. I'm surprised it could fail so quickly.

I recently replaced my A/C compressor because it hadn't been cooling properly since last fall. My mechanic said the bad one he removed was also not the original unit. So now my Golf is on its third compressor (that I know of) within 12 years. A family member's MK3 Jetta still has its original compressor that cools perfectly.

Other members have mentioned the MK4 A/C systems don't seem to work quite as well as the earlier cars. The clutch apparently was changed to an "always on" configuration for the later models.

I don't know about your compressor seizing, but my car has obviously been prone to cooling issues. Just get a quality replacement unit so hopefully it will last for a few more years this time.
