This is related to my thread "Jetta TDI A5 died today... but lives again", sorry if I shouldn't have started a new thread.

Customers car (2007 BEW) died with a seized a/c compressor, pulley bearing disintegrated and subsequently seized, 'killing' the engine. Before this, the car had intermittant limp mode issues (soft).

I rebuilt the compressor pulley with a new bearing and had to weld the breakaway (if compressor seize, it prevents engine damage by allowing pulley to disengage from compressor) spring leaves that connect the shaft to the pulley on Friday, working like a charm and seems like limp mode issues are gone too.

So, I am theorising: The compressor pulley was slowly seizing during the past two weeks, the result was that the engine had to work harder than usual with increased boost required from turbo to sustain required work loads. At times, the turbo overboosted, and triggered limp mode to protect the engine. Any comments?
