My Q5 just turned over 35k miles, so I went to perform the service this past weekend. Though it wasn't indicating that it needed DEF, I've had the car for 5k miles and haven't added any yet, so I figured I should top it off.

I had a 2.5-gal jug I bought at Autozone, which came with a pour spout. I figured I should just be able to remove the cap next to the fuel fill, put the spout in, and pour it in. No such luck--it wouldn't take more than about a cup before it would overflow, making a bit of a mess in the process.

Is there a trick to this? It worked fine on my A3.

Perhaps if you pour slower so that air in the tank can escape?

I haven't had to fill mine up yet but I remember hearing other guys saying it was a PITA in other threads.

turn your ignition key on all the way ,but don't start it, then add you def fluid, My local Audi service tech gave me this information.I've had no problems filling my Q7.
